HASTINGS HELEN N. HASTINGS (nee Faltin), born August 14,1930, of Helen (nee Prilipaitis) and Julius Faltin (both deceased), died relatively peacefully at about 1 p.m. on March 27, 2004. Helen was stricken with Alzheimer’s a few years back, and had been at Broadview Multicare Center for the past two years. Helen traveled to the Amazon Basin in the 1950s, and learned to fly light aircraft shortly after returning; accomplishing her solo flight in a Piper Cub in 1955. Helen was the kind to take in strays, and nursed many sick animals back to health. She was a good driver, and a certified scuba diver. She wrote poetry, and was published three times, her work can be seen at: www. poetry.com/poets. Helen loved fishing and just spending time by the lake. Volunteer service in the Cleveland Police Auxiliary earned her a Mayor’s Award. She was retired from MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Helen’s brother, Julius Fal-tin, Jr. preceded her in death four years ago. Helen’s brother, Harold Faltin, and her brother, Harvey Faltin also preceded her in death by many years. There will be no funeral, out of respect for her wishes. There will be a Farewell Service in Wade Chapel at Lake View Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2004. Her sons, James W. Hastings, Jr., and Gary C. Hastings will miss her greatly.
